Fast and efficient: Small batch sizes, great solutions

The demand for personalized medication is growing, as is the desire to bring products quickly to market after successful clinical trials. Small batch production has become a necessity for manufacturers of medical and pharmaceutical products. For many medicines, batch sizes are decreasing, but the demands on packaging are increasing: Artwork, label and package inserts have to be adapted to country-specific requirements, and counterfeit protection, tamper protection and full traceability must be fulfilled.

Körber's modular packaging systems are particularly suitable for pharmaceutical manufacturers of small batches - right down to individual units. Semi- or fully-automatic production lines for parenteral products can be set up embedded in an intelligent software structure. Optimised pack sizes can be designed as top-load or sideload variants.

lWe have to offer the pharmaceutical industry machines that are more sustainable without compromising on flexibility.r

Dividella NeoSmart — flexibility and quality for small batch production

With the Dividella NeoSmart solution, Körber's Pharma Business Area offers a modular and expandable packaging system that is not locked into one implementation. We enable flexible and efficient production, especially for low-volume applications. And thanks to the FlexUnits, a fast, online format change is possible - without line clearance.

lA modular and scalable packaging system so that you aren’t limited to a single type of implementation; this allows for flexible and efficient production.r

Well-connected, even for small batch sizes

The flexible cartoning machines P1600 and P3200 are designed for small and medium batch sizes and enable packaging in folding cartons of almost all pharmaceutical products. The integration of additional functions at a later date is no problem thanks to the modular design based on the building block principle. The machines require minimal space and need only a few format parts.

Increased OEE despite decreasing batch sizes

At Körber, we reduce your costs per unit produced. We take a holistic approach to machines, systems and the entire supply chain. Factors such as decreasing batch sizes, shortened time-to-market and improved plant efficiency no longer have to be mutually exclusive. Our solutions address the diverse challenges of the packaging industry, regardless of whether machine, line or process expertise is required.

The reduction in productivity caused by decreasing batch sizes can be offset by optimizing on a variety of levels:

  • On the level of individual machines or devices: Line level
  • On the plant level: Site level
  • On the multi-location processing level: Corporate level

Line level: Fast change-over

At the line level, the focus is on the technical optimization of individual machines and devices. High reliability, low maintenance requirements, short reset times, and fast format changes ensure flexibility and cost effectiveness.

Site-Level: LSC®

At the site level, Körber’s Late Stage Customization (LSC®) concept enables you to ingeniously combine small packaging batches so that they can be assembled later on. Our BIB-BOB module can collect standardized primary packaging that is blank or only partially printed. This packaging can then be printed and cartoned at short notice. This results in greatly increased overall equipment effectiveness.

Corporate Level: White-Line

Would you like to serve several national markets in a single production run? Then Körber's White Line concept is the solution: it allows you to package pharmaceutical porducts entirely without the time-consuming and costly  machine changeover that would otherwise be necessary. All elements to be printed country-specifically (e.g. base film, continuous paper for package inserts) are fed into the packaging line in blank - i.e. "white" - and printed inline with all the necessary data.
